Calling all Catholic stockholders of San Miguel Corporation – do not be accomplices in the destruction of our Common Home. You must make a stand against coal-fired power plants, this destructive Pasig River Expressway (PAREX), and expansion of fossil gas industry. Remember the 2019 CBCP Pastoral Letter on Ecology and Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, On Care for Our Common Home. With your investments, our ecosystems and peoples suffer and die. Your investment is dirty, immoral and deadly. Six years after the encyclical was released, no significant movement of divestment, reinvestment nor influence have been made from actual Catholic stockholders. It is now high time to call on the faithful to rally behind the social teachings of the Church and let those who keep mum and silent act on the goals of Laudato Si’ towards genuine ecological conversion and redefining economy for the planet and the most vulnerable and marginalized peoples. This does not only apply to San Miguel Corporation but also to Phinma, Bank of the Philippine Islands, DMCI Holdings, Philex Miining and other corporations. Divestment or reinvestment may be a burden but you can use your influence to make a change. Act now!
